About the Dictionary

This site is home to the OpenOffice.org Māori dictionary, a spell checker for the office suite OpenOffice.org. The strength of this dictionary results from the vast donated word list (see Acknowledgements). It contains most Māori words and place names, and has full support for macronisation.

The dictionary is easy to install and is completely free. It has been released under the GNU Lesser General Public License with the kind permission of the word list creator, and it is yours to use it how you choose!

See the FAQ for more information about the dictionary, or try here for technical details about the file format.

About OpenOffice.org

OpenOffice.org is a fully open-source, free, easy to use, customisable, localisable, and completely capable office suite.

It contains a word processor, a spreadsheet program and presentation software, as well as its own drawing programs, mathematical formula editors, graph makers and HTML editing facilities.

All this comes at absolutely no cost! It has been built (and is being continuously updated) by thousands of volunteers working in many places all over the world.

You can download a copy of OpenOffice from www.openoffice.org, or by ordering a CD from the New Zealand site: www.openoffice.org.nz. Try their sites, or have a look at the FAQ for more information.
